retailp.com is a networking platform for all retail real estate professionals. About the role

We're looking for an experienced Web Application Developer to work alongside our product dev team, building our web app and helping design/plan application development. Our software is primarily built in Ruby on Rails with a PostgreSQL database, and we're looking for someone who has a good deal of experience building and maintaining applications on that stack. Someone who understands the best practices of modern web development, object-oriented design, and knows the ins and outs of working on a large project over time. We're also working on becoming better at doing test-driven development, and this role would involve leading that charge. We follow Agile development practices, and you'll be designing, coding, and deploying updates frequently. Overall this is a great chance for someone to work with a developer-oriented team on a tech-driven product, and take ownership of a large piece of that work.

Skills and Attributes We're Looking For

  • Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Mapping tools (LeafletJS, Mapbox)
  • JavaScript, EcmaScript6, jQuery
  • HTML5/CSS3, SASS
  • Awareness of website responsiveness
  • Creating email templates
  • Experience with BackboneJS + Marionette
  • AWS, Docker, in-house Linux servers
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts
  • IT skills (setting up emails, installing software, troubleshooting)
  • Working and designing APIs
  • Experience with the following is a plus: PHP, MySQL

Senior Web Application Developer - Python/Django

We Are Pop Up is a community-driven marketplace for short-term commercial property leasing. While we certainly didn't invent the concept of a "pop up shop", we're embracing it whole-heartedly as way to enable a new generation of retail, food, and creative entrepreneurs to operate as easily in the offline world as businesses currently do online? Our product: an excellent software platform that removes the time and overhead typically associated with commercial leasing. We Are Pop Up officially launched this platform near the end of 2012, and has already given numerous creative entrepreneurs around the UK opportunities to engage the offline world in ways they never had before, whilst growing a community of innovative players building the future of the high street.

Skills and Attributes We're Looking For

  • 3-5+ years developing web applications using Django or an equivalent framework/language (e.g. Ruby/Rails)
  • A demonstrable understanding of the basics of software application architecture as it applies to web applications
  • Fluency with SQL
  • An understanding of front-end development and how it relates to the back end
  • An interest in code optimization and cleanliness
  • Work equally well in close coordination with others and independently/self-directed. We're a small team, so we'll always be working closely, sometimes in pairs, but often you'll need to be able to take on things on your own
